Let's face it, we live our lives on our digital devices. Writing down your thoughts and feelings helps you better recognize, manage, and work through them. If you struggle with depression, whether postpartum or otherwise, according to the University of Rochester Medical Center keeping a journal can help you gain control of your emotions and improve your mental health. Writing down thoughts and memories, whether happy or sad, is a way to release them from your brain, and the act of sitting down to write is a way to slow your breathing and heartbeat. Studies have shown that the emotional release from journaling lowers anxiety, stress, and induces better sleep, according to The Huffington Post. The act of jotting down your favorite memories sends a rush of endorphins to your head and your heart, and results in an immediate boost in your mood and a more positive overall outlook on life. When you journal about beloved and cherished memories, you relive those moments all over again. It calls a wandering mind to attention, from passivity to actively engaging with your thoughts." According to an article published on The Huffington Post, "Journaling brings you into that state of mindfulness past frustrations and future anxieties lose their edge in the present moment. When you take the time to sit down and focus on writing in your journal, you're working toward being more present and mindful. I’m not saying I’m going to strictly follow this and just go down the line and write 30 posts based on each prompt, some of them I’m not that interested in writing about, plus there are plenty of other topics I’ve already been meaning to write about, but when I get stuck, I plan to refer to this list for ideas. I got the above list of writing prompts from my cousin Maya, and I think this is a pretty good template. But if I miss a morning for whatever reason, I’ll make sure to write and publish one before the days ends. the plan is to have a new post published each morning. I may even post more than one on some days. I promise, that starting tomorrow, for the month of November I will post at least one new blog a day for the entire month. Well, that is about to change, I am committing to getting back to my old blogging self. For those of you who still occasionally pay attention to this blog, you know I have been lax, pathetically lax, in updating it on any kind of regular basis for MONTHS.
